Used Excavator Import Checklist for Peru, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador
A pre-shipment checklist for importing used excavators into Peru, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador, covering machine evidence, documents, customs confirmation and loading.
Import rules differ across Peru, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. The safest workflow is to confirm import eligibility before payment, align the machine and documents before loading, and have a licensed customs broker review the file set before shipment.
Quick answer: identify the exact machine and serial number, obtain a broker’s written import checklist, confirm classification and any licence or inspection requirement, check drafts of the invoice and packing list, then approve loading and shipping documents.
Step 1: confirm the machine can be imported
Send the broker the model, serial number, year if verified, engine information, operating weight, condition, attachments, country of origin and intended use. Ask whether age, emissions, registration, inspection, licence or conformity requirements apply.
Step 2: prepare the commercial file
- Sales contract identifying buyer, seller and exact machine.
- Commercial invoice with serial number, value, Incoterm and named port.
- Packing list with dimensions, weight, attachments and package count.
- Inspection or condition evidence requested by the buyer or authority.
- Payment records consistent with the contracting parties.
Step 3: prepare transport documents
- Bill of lading draft and final version.
- Cargo insurance certificate where applicable.
- Certificate of origin or other declarations when required.
- Container number and seal, or vessel cargo reference.
- Loading photographs and video.
Country-by-country confirmation points
| Country | Confirm before shipment | Official reference |
|---|---|---|
| Peru | Classification, current restrictions, valuation, taxes and broker procedure | SUNAT |
| Chile | Admission requirements, documents, port charges and oversize transport | Aduanas de Chile |
| Colombia | Tariff classification, registration or licence where applicable, and DIAN procedure | DIAN |
| Ecuador | Licences, pre-arrival procedure, classification and destination clearance | SENAE |
Step 4: calculate the complete landed cost
Include machine, preparation, origin transport, loading, freight, insurance, destination charges, broker, duties and taxes, inspections, inland delivery and contingency. Do not rely on an ocean-freight number as the complete import cost.
Step 5: approve the final loading plan
- Confirm measured dimensions and weight.
- Approve container, flat rack, RoRo or breakbulk method.
- Record attachments and removed parts.
- Verify the serial number during loading.
- Review draft documents before originals are issued.
Final pre-payment checklist
- Supplier and beneficiary verified.
- Specific machine inspected.
- Known repairs and condition recorded.
- Broker confirms current import path.
- Incoterm, port and exclusions written into the offer.
- Payment and shipment milestones defined.
This checklist is general commercial information, not legal, tax or customs advice. Procedures change; confirm current requirements with official authorities and a licensed broker in the destination country.
